Hokage: Reborn as Hokage, Starting with Saving Jiraiya

Chapter 22: Eyes of Betrayal - Naruto’s Daring Strike Against Danzo Shakes Konoha’s Core

The Hokage office stood bathed in the harsh light of midday, its wooden walls steeped in the weight of history and the faint scent of ink. Naruto pushed through the heavy doors, his sandals echoing against the polished floor as he stepped inside. The room was already alive with tension—Tsunade sat behind her desk, her amber eyes sharp and unreadable, Shizune hovering at her side with Tonton cradled in her arms. Jiraiya lounged against a wall, his bandaged arm a stark reminder of his fragility, while Mito Menyan and Koharu Utatane, Konoha's elder advisors, sat stiffly in their chairs, their weathered faces etched with curiosity.

Naruto had orchestrated this gathering, urging Tsunade to summon the village's top brass under the guise of a critical meeting. The elders' presence was a calculated move—a smokescreen to lull Danzo into complacency. He scanned the room, noting the empty space where his target should be. "Granny Tsunade," he said, voice steady, "where's Danzo?"

Tsunade's frown deepened, her fingers tapping the desk. "Kakashi's fetching him. Should be here soon."

Naruto nodded, falling silent, his mind racing with the plan he'd kept shrouded even from her. Tsunade leaned forward, her gaze piercing. "Naruto, why insist on Danzo being here before you spill this 'secret'? What are you playing at?"

He flashed a cryptic smile. "You'll see, Granny. Trust me."

Jiraiya shifted, a flicker of unease crossing his features. Something about Naruto's calm rattled him—an instinct honed by years of mentorship. Mito Menyan cleared his throat, his voice raspy. "Tsunade, what's this about? You drag us here, mention Naruto's secret—something tied to Konoha's fate?"

Koharu nodded, her sharp eyes darting between them. "And Danzo too? Must be big."

"It's about the Fourth Hokage," Naruto said, his tone measured but firm.

The elders gasped, exchanging startled glances. The Fourth—Minato Namikaze—was a legend, his legacy a sacred thread in Konoha's tapestry. The bait was set.

Miles below, in the shadowed depths of Root's lair, Danzo stood hunched over his cane, its tip grinding into the stone floor as a masked operative delivered the news. "Hokage Tsunade has summoned Mito Menyan and Koharu to her office. Kakashi's on his way to bring you."

Danzo's single eye narrowed, suspicion coiling in his gut. What's Tsunade scheming? Dragging out the old guard? He'd hoped for chaos—Nine Tails unleashed, Tsunade and Jiraiya weakened—giving him the chance to seize control. But Jiraiya's interference last night had thwarted that. Now this. He snorted, a smirk tugging at his lips. Jiraiya's crippled, Tsunade's desperate—probably some mess they can't handle. When Kakashi arrived, his summons crisp and formal, Danzo rose without hesitation, leaving his Root guards behind. No need to rouse Tsunade's ANBU suspicions—he was untouchable in the heart of Konoha. Or so he thought.

Back in the office, a sharp knock broke the silence. "Come in," Tsunade called, her voice edged with impatience.

Kakashi stepped through, his silver hair glinting as he inclined his head. "Hokage-sama, Danzo-sama's here."

Danzo followed, his cane tapping a slow, deliberate rhythm. His weathered face creased into a faint smile as he took in the room. Mito Menyan and Koharu rose, the latter grumbling, "Took you long enough, Danzo. We've been waiting."

"Age slows the stride," Danzo replied smoothly, his tone dripping with mockery. "Surprising, though, that our esteemed Hokage remembers us relics."

Tsunade's jaw tightened—he was needling her, lumping himself with the elders to form a subtle alliance. Naruto, his back to Danzo, felt the moment crystallize. His shadow clone at home dispelled in a silent puff, flooding him with natural energy. Orange shadows bloomed around his eyes—Sage Mode igniting his senses, his speed, his strength.

Jiraiya's head snapped up, the shift in chakra hitting him like a thunderclap. He knew that glow—knew what it meant. "Naruto—!" he started, but it was too late.

In a blur, Naruto spun, his movements a storm of precision—swift, sharp, ruthless. Danzo's smile froze, his words still forming as Naruto's hand shot forward, fingers closing around his bandaged right eye. "This is mine now," Naruto growled, ripping the Sharingan free with a sickening tear.

Danzo's scream shattered the room, blood streaming down his face as he staggered back, clutching the wound. Chaos erupted. Kakashi's hand crackled with Raikiri, lunging to subdue Naruto, but the blond vanished in a buzz of Flying Thunder God, reappearing atop a nearby rooftop, Danzo's stolen eye clutched in his bloodied hand.

Inside, Tsunade leapt to her feet, shock morphing into fury. "Naruto, what the hell are you doing?!" Her fist slammed into the desk, splintering wood.

Mito Menyan and Koharu whirled on her, voices trembling with outrage. "Tsunade, explain this! Is this your doing?!"

Danzo, still reeling, pressed a hand to his ruined socket, his remaining eye blazing with venom. "Tsunade, you dare strike at me like this?"

"I didn't—!" she began, but Naruto's voice cut through, cold and clear from outside.

"If Granny Tsunade wanted you gone, Danzo, she wouldn't bother inviting you here." He stood framed against the sky, the Sharingan dangling from his fingers, crimson staining his sleeve.

Kakashi burst through the shattered window, Jiraiya close behind, their movements a blur of intent. ANBU swarmed the streets below, encircling the building in a tightening net. Tsunade vaulted out, landing with a thud, her fists clenched. The elders stumbled to the window, supporting a staggering Danzo as Shizune rushed to his side. "Let me stop the bleeding," she urged, her voice tight.

Danzo shoved her away, fury overriding pain. "Bleeding?! That's Shisui's eye, you fools!" He leapt down, his cane abandoned, pointing a trembling finger at Naruto. "Tsunade, if you don't answer for this, I'll bury you myself!"

Naruto met his glare, unflinching, the stolen Sharingan glinting in the sunlight. He'd acted fast—Sage Mode's perception had caught the faint pulse of Danzo's chakra, the threat of Distinguished Heavenly Gods looming. One wrong move, and Danzo could've turned them all into puppets. Now, the eye was his, a weapon wrested from a schemer's grasp.

Jiraiya's voice was low, strained. "Naruto, why? What's this about?"

Tsunade's rage boiled over. "You better have a damn good reason, kid, or I'll haul you in myself!"

Danzo's snarl cut through. "He's a traitor—attacking an elder in broad daylight! You've lost control, Tsunade!"

Naruto's gaze shifted between them—Tsunade's fury, Jiraiya's disbelief, Danzo's wrath. He'd crossed a line, shattered trust, but Danzo's ambitions had forced his hand. The Sharingan in his grip was proof of the old man's treachery—Shisui's stolen power, a threat to Konoha's soul. He tightened his fist around it, blood dripping to the tiles below.

"I'll explain," he said, voice steady despite the chaos. "But not here. Not now." With a flicker of chakra, he vanished again, leaving the rooftop empty, the echoes of his defiance hanging in the air.

Tsunade's fists trembled, Jiraiya's jaw clenched, and Danzo's remaining eye burned with a vow of vengeance. The village held its breath, teetering on the edge of fracture.
