Chapter 54: Another Encounter with the Evil Entity
Chapter 54: Another Encounter with the Evil Entity
The distant horizon was completely shrouded in a milky-white mist, so thick that it surged and rolled toward Chuyun City, enveloping the entire city as if it had fallen into a sea of clouds.
Zhou Li walked ahead, leading the way with You Su following behind.
“Not being able to see might be a good thing at times like this,” Zhou Li said seriously.
You Su was momentarily stunned, then chuckled self-deprecatingly, silently lamenting how severely underestimated he seemed to be.
There were thirty-six people on patrol, with three assigned every hour. Despite being the Champion of the Ascension Assembly, You Su was excluded from the list because of his blindness. Even when it came to returning home, City Lord Liu had specifically arranged for someone to escort him, just as Wu Cheng had been sent to fetch him earlier.
Clearly, in everyone’s eyes, he had become the “useless one”.
But You Su didn’t see it that way. In this boundless fog, everyone was blind to a certain extent. But how could these newly “blinded” people think that they were better suited to this foggy environment than someone who had been blind for eighteen years?
Still, You Su didn’t insist on joining the patrol. In the face of such a sudden crisis, his only wish was to protect his junior sister and master’s wife. If he had any strength left, he would help others.
“Not being able to see is never a good thing,” You Su replied flatly.
Zhou Li was surprised. He hadn’t meant anything by his comment. It was just that the environment was too quiet, and their vision was severely limited. If no one spoke and they continued walking in silence, it felt as though they were marching silently toward the underworld. That’s why he couldn’t help but voice his thoughts.
“Yeah, I understand,” Zhou Li said, though it was hard for people to truly empathize with one another. Maybe he did not fully understand.
You Su also felt that the silence was a bit awkward, so he added, “Your master and my master don’t get along, but your master is willing to go out and deliver the message. He is a remarkable man.”
“Thank you. My master has a fiery temper and is highly competitive, but he’s a good person at heart.”
“You have the same family name, Zhou. What kind of person is Sect Leader Zhou?”
“He is my adoptive father,” Zhou Li replied, prompted by the question. “I was born far from here, near the coast. I grew up without parents, relying on the kindness of strangers. When I was ten, I discovered that I could cultivate, but there were no sects nearby. So I traveled inland, hoping to join a cultivation sect”.
“But repeated rejections drove me to despair. It was Sect Leader Zhou who took me in and taught me how to cultivate. He has his own children, and they didn’t always get along with me, but Sect Leader Zhou always stood up for me. I’m very grateful to him. During a sect competition, I took first place. When Sect Leader Zhou asked me what reward I wanted, I asked him to give me his surname. His other sons were furious, but Sect Leader Zhou overruled them, and from then on I became Zhou Li”.
“I am not after my adoptive father’s legacy. I just wanted to use this surname to motivate myself to work harder and prove myself worthy of it. I used to think I was quite talented, but after watching your match with Wu Cheng a few days ago, I realized I was just a frog at the bottom of a well.”
“Don’t sell yourself short,” You Su comforted him. “My master often says that cultivators should not compare themselves with each other, but with the heavens and themselves. The cultivation path is endless. It means nothing to be ahead for a moment. The true victor is the one who reaches the end.”
“No wonder your master could train such a talented disciple as you,” Zhou Li praised sincerely.
“You can stop here. Go back and spend more time with your adoptive father,” You Su suddenly stopped walking. Ahead of them was the familiar West Willow Road.
“The fog seems thicker here than in the city. Maybe I should walk you to your door,” Zhou Li suggested, looking at the thick fog ahead.
You Su stepped in front of Zhou Li. “I know the way like the back of my hand. I could walk it backwards. The fog makes no difference to me.”
Zhou Li didn’t push any further. After reminding You Su to be careful and seek help at the city lord’s mansion if needed, he turned back.
You Su calmly walked through the mist. The conversation with Zhou Li had been quiet and low-key, but there was a faint sense of melancholy in the air.
Everyone might have their own unique and fascinating stories, but in the face of the despair brought on by the colossal evil entity outside the city, all stories lost their color.
“Divine Revelation from the Clouds…”
You Su suddenly recalled the words that Elder Ling had muttered before his death. He couldn’t help but feel that the current situation was related to those four words.
But what did “divine” refer to? Could the giant mist-spewing evil entity that City Lord Liu mentioned be the “divine”?
You Su inwardly shook his head. He didn’t think that it was that simple. If the “Divine” made City Lord Liu believe that they would be saved once the Exorcism Bureau arrived, then it couldn’t be the true “Divine”.
Based on this, You Su had a guess about the purpose of the endless mist spewed by the entity. It was probably preparing for the arrival of the true “divine”.
He couldn’t help but think of what his monstrous junior sister had once told him. The two powerful evil entities Tai Sui and one possessing his master’s wife had not come to Chuyun City to devour them. Then what was their purpose? Was it also related to the “divine” that Elder Ling had mentioned? What was their relationship with the mist entity outside? And would the current situation cause those two entities to leave his junior sister and master’s wife, or would their possession intensify?
You Su took out the Evil Repelling Token from his dimensional bag and held it tightly. He had almost forgotten the message that had once flowed from the token:
“The Dream Devourer has stolen the treasure from the altar and fled, likely reaching the Central Realm Continent.”
He had always thought that this message had nothing to do with him, but now it seemed to be inextricably linked to the “Divine Revelation from the Clouds”. Chuyun City seemed to be the convergence point of all these clues.
His mind was in turmoil. None of these revelations were things that someone with his strength should have to bear.
Even with memories from two lifetimes, he didn’t consider himself the center of the world. At this moment, he regretted not taking his junior sister and master’s wife away from this troubled place sooner. With this thought, he quickened his pace.
Suddenly, the sound of birds taking flight shattered the silence between the tiles. You Su felt a creeping sensation of being watched, and goose bumps rose on his limbs.
Instinctively, he wanted to expand his Divine Sense to observe his surroundings, but the mist blocked his perception. Yet, he could still sense something – this feeling didn’t come from his Divine Sense…
You Su turned around abruptly! On the eaves behind him, a red evil being the size of a cat was crouching and silently watching him!
It bared its teeth, but its eyes were below its mouth, as if its head had been twisted halfway around. Its fur floated eerily, and upon closer inspection, it was clear that each strand was a thin, blood-red tentacle.
You Su’s hair stood on end. When the evil entity noticed that You Su had seen it, its pupils contracted and it immediately turned and fled to the other side of the wall.
Slightly frowning, You Su didn’t hesitate. He drew his Black Pine Sword and gave chase.
