DRIVER 88 (The Death Race Saga).

Chapter 4: CHAPTER 4: THE PRISON KING

---

1. A New Breed of Fear

Jaxon sat on his bunk, hands clasped together, staring at the cold concrete walls of his cell.

The guards no longer looked at him like just another inmate.

No.

They looked at him with respect.

With fear.

Winning the Death Race wasn't just about survival—it was about status.

And Jaxon had just climbed to the top of the food chain.

But in a place like Blackridge Penitentiary, being on top only meant one thing.

Someone would always be coming to take you down.

---

2. The Warden's Invitation

The cell doors slid open with a heavy metallic clang.

Two heavily armed guards stood outside.

"Driver 88, the Warden wants to see you."

Jaxon exhaled slowly and stood up.

He followed the guards down the dimly lit corridors, past inmates who whispered his name.

Some with admiration.

Others with hatred.

Finally, they arrived at the Warden's office.

A large, dimly lit room with walls covered in surveillance screens, each one showing different parts of the prison.

Warden Hawk sat behind his desk, swirling a glass of whiskey, his cold eyes locked onto Jaxon.

"You put on one hell of a show last night," Hawk said with a smirk.

Jaxon remained silent.

The Warden leaned forward. "Do you know why you're still alive?"

Jaxon narrowed his eyes. "Because I'm good at what I do."

Hawk chuckled. "Because I let you live."

He tapped a file on his desk.

Jaxon's criminal record.

Hawk flipped it open, reading aloud. "Jaxon 'Driver 88' Cross. Former street racer. Ex-military. Charged with vehicular manslaughter, conspiracy, and aiding in armed robbery. Sentenced to life."

He closed the file.

"Tell me, Jaxon… do you want to spend the rest of your days fighting for survival in this hellhole?"

Jaxon clenched his fists. "You already know the answer."

The Warden grinned. "Good. Because I have an offer for you."

---

3. A Deal with the Devil

Hawk leaned back, sipping his whiskey.

"The Death Races? They're just the beginning."

Jaxon frowned. "What do you mean?"

The Warden stood and gestured to the screens.

"Blackridge is more than just a prison. It's a business. The races bring in millions from underground betting circuits. But I want more."

Jaxon crossed his arms. "And what does that have to do with me?"

Hawk smirked.

"I need a champion. Someone the people will love. A star to keep the bets coming in. And you, Driver 88… you just became my new main attraction."

Jaxon's jaw tightened. "So what? You want me to keep racing until I die?"

Hawk's smirk widened.

"Oh no. I want you to keep racing until I say you've won enough."

Jaxon exhaled sharply. "And if I refuse?"

Hawk's eyes turned cold.

"Then you die in the next race. Simple."

Jaxon's stomach twisted.

There was no choice.

---

4. The Prison King's Challenge

Jaxon was escorted back to the main yard, where the strongest inmates ruled.

He knew what was coming.

Winning the Death Race had made him a target.

A crowd of prisoners had already gathered around the center of the yard.

And standing in the middle—was Titan.

Seven feet tall, covered in scars, a monster in human form.

The undisputed king of Blackridge Penitentiary.

Titan cracked his knuckles.

"You think you're hot shit, 88?" he growled.

Jaxon smirked. "Nah. I know I am."

The crowd erupted with cheers and taunts.

Titan sneered. "You want to be the king? You gotta take the crown."

Jaxon rolled his shoulders, stepping forward.

"Then let's see who bleeds first."

---

5. The King Must Bleed

Titan lunged like a beast, throwing a punch aimed straight at Jaxon's skull.

Jaxon dodged—just barely.

The force of the punch cracked the concrete pillar behind him.

Titan was fast. Too fast.

But Jaxon was faster.

He ducked low and drove his fist into Titan's ribs.

Titan barely flinched.

Instead, he grabbed Jaxon by the throat and lifted him off the ground.

The crowd roared.

Jaxon gasped for air, kicking against Titan's chest.

Finally, he twisted and slammed his elbow into Titan's eye socket.

The giant stumbled.

The crowd went silent.

Blood dripped down Titan's face.

Jaxon landed on his feet and wiped his mouth.

"I told you. First blood is mine."

Titan snarled. "You're dead."

And the real fight began.

---

6. Only One King Can Stand

Jaxon and Titan traded blow for blow.

Jaxon was faster, smarter.

Titan was stronger, relentless.

One punch from Titan sent Jaxon skidding across the yard.

Pain shot through his ribs, but he forced himself back up.

"Stay down, 88." Titan growled.

Jaxon wiped blood from his lip. "Not a chance."

Titan charged again.

But this time—Jaxon was ready.

He sidestepped, driving his knee into Titan's gut.

Titan staggered.

Jaxon twisted and slammed his elbow into the back of Titan's skull.

The giant collapsed onto his knees.

The yard fell silent.

Jaxon stood over him.

And for the first time in years, Titan stayed down.

The guards didn't interfere.

The inmates only watched.

Because they all knew.

Jaxon Cross wasn't just Driver 88.

He was now the new King of Blackridge.
