Chapter 13: Chapter 13 Direwolf
Chapter 13 Direwolf
The next morning, Amon opened his eyes in the tent, feeling a heavy weight on his chest, as if something was pressing down on him.
He twitched his lips as he looked at Yan Jin drooling beside him, her restless legs pressing down on him.
He moved Yan Jin's leg away and pinched her cheeks to wake her up.
Yan Jin's face was full of confusion when she first woke up, and she instinctively rubbed the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand, "Is it time to eat?"
"I seriously doubt how you managed to survive in a place like West Street until now?" Amon's cold voice woke Yan Jin up.
She smiled embarrassedly, "I was too excited yesterday and fell asleep very late."
"Pack up the tent and prepare to enter the mountains."
"Okay."
After Yan Jin left the tent, a translucent worm with twelve segments and starry sky-like colors turned into a faint light and entered Amon's body.
This was one of his Worm of Avatars, responsible for guarding the night last night.
After packing up, Amon and Yan Jin carried the two tents on their backs, and the three of them walked into the mountains.
Glenn explained the goal of this trip to the two: "A mercenary group discovered a group of slimes next to a lake on the top of a mountain, one of which was unique, being fiery red. I had already specifically confirmed it before. It is indeed a Flame Slime, but the age is unclear."
Amon breathed in the fresh air in the mountains with the fragrance of grass and trees, and nodded, "The age characteristics of slimes are not easy to judge. Only after fighting can we make a rough estimate based on their attacks."
As they walked, Glenn suddenly slowed down.
Yan Jin turned her head and looked around, she also felt a trace of unusualness.
Amon maintained the flow of soul power in his body, ready to materialize it into a shield to protect himself at any time.
In the dense bushes, a figure suddenly Channel out and pounced on Yan Jin, the smallest of the three.
Glenn glanced at it and pretended not to see it. It was just an ordinary beast, not worth worrying about. He wanted to see what this genius, who was held in high expectations by Ma Wen, could do.
Yan Jin was stunned for a moment, then decisively rolled to the side to avoid the pounce.
The attacker, however, continued to pursue relentlessly.
"Heh ah..." A large mass of magma emerged from her hand, with a surging heat wave, and the terrifying high temperature instantly melted through the attacker's head.
It was a leopard. Half of its head was burned off, and it fell powerlessly to the ground. The corpse twitched twice and stopped moving.
There was no splashing blood, the wound became charred at the first moment, and the blood evaporated. The air was filled with the smell of barbecue.
"Tch, you scared me, just a big cat." Yan Jin kicked the leopard's corpse carelessly.
Glenn's eyes narrowed. The destructive power she displayed was amazing. Even if it was just an ordinary beast, it was not something that someone without a soul ring could easily solve, but Yan Jin did it so simply and neatly.
Amon was also amazed. Her combat talent was better than he expected. The ruthlessness she showed during the life-and-death fight far exceeded what she showed during sparring with him.
"Beautiful!" Amon clapped his hands and praised.
The road ahead was not smooth, and there were always mosquitoes, poisonous snakes, and wild beasts attacking from time to time.
Yan Jin relied on her martial soul to burn all dangerous sources approaching her to ashes.
Amon either condensed soul power into a shield or used tent pegs to block them one by one.
As for Glenn, basically no insects or snakes targeted him, and he was like a ghost, hidden in the bushes.
Looking at Yan Jin, who was panting due to mental tension and soul power consumption, he turned his head and said, "Don't you guys prepare before entering the jungle?"
"This is my mistake." Amon said with a slight apology. He really didn't have any experience in this regard.
"It is very dangerous to exhaust your soul power in the Xilin Mountains. We are here to hunt soul beasts. If you continue like this, you will only become food for soul beasts."
He handed a bag of white powder to Amon.
"Smear it on your body. It will emit some odors that insects and snakes hate, causing them to instinctively avoid you. Normally, more than one type of insect repellent powder is needed. Due to the characteristics of my martial soul, I only prepared this one. You still need to remain highly vigilant, but it will be much easier than just now."
"Thank you." Amon took the powder.
He and Yan Jin sprinkled the powder on their bodies, and the effect was significant. Insects rarely came to harass them.
After a difficult trek, Yan Jin's face showed visible fatigue. She gritted her teeth and did not fall behind.
"Let's take a break." Glenn said at a rock wall.
Yan Jin sat down on a rock, exhaling lightly, "How much further is it?"
"We've only gone halfway. At this speed, I'm afraid we won't be able to go back before dark." Glenn said coldly.
"Isn't that what we expected? That's why we brought these things to prepare for this situation." Amon pointed to the tent on the ground.
Glenn shrugged, "I just want to remind you that the forest is more dangerous at night."
"Awoo..." A wolf howl sounded.
Several snow-white, huge wolves surrounded them, their ghostly green eyes filled with violence and greed.
"This is... an Icefield Wolf?" Amon pinched his monocle.
Icefield Wolves are a type of soul beast that generally move in small families of five or six.
Yan Jin's face was a little pale. She felt that the wolves' target was herself, and their greedy gaze had never shifted away from her.
The wolves kept making threatening gestures, gradually shrinking the encirclement, hoping to disrupt the prey's formation and attack the weakest one.
Amon "tsk"ed and said softly, "Can you handle it?"
"Just a bunch of fools that are less than a hundred years old." Glenn snorted disdainfully. He burst out with the aura of a Soul Elder, soul power surging, and the black robe behind him fluttered, "If they had any wisdom, they would run away now."
Glenn's sudden burst of soul power fluctuations made the wolves hesitate, but they still did not give up.
With a howl from the alpha wolf, the wolves launched an attack from different directions with tacit understanding.
They had a clear division of labor. Three besieged Glenn, two restrained Amon, and the other two pounced on Yan Jin. These last two were the real key points. The rest were just feints. From the beginning, they only intended to hunt her.
Amon straightened his right index finger and thumb. With two muffled "bang bang" sounds, air bullets pierced the eyes of the two wolves and exploded in their heads. They didn't even have time to scream before they fell.
Yan Jin advanced instead of retreating, summoned her martial soul, and instantly pierced the chest of an Icefield Wolf. Then, she kicked the head of the other one, using the reaction force to create distance.
She stomped hard with her right foot, approached the one that was still alive, and, in the Icefield Wolf's horrified gaze, stuffed a large mass of magma into its mouth.
A pair of cat ears grew on Glenn's head, and layers of dark shadows surged on his body. The second soul skill lit up. He suddenly accelerated, rushed out like a sharp sword, the hand that grew claws cut open the throat of a wolf, and a long tail swept away another.
The last wolf king urgently twisted its body and ran away without looking back. The wolf that was hit by Glenn's tail whimpered and followed.
Amon noticed that Glenn was silent even when fighting, and his presence was unusually weak. If he hadn't been paying attention to him the whole time, he might have ignored him.
Combining the characteristics that appeared when his martial soul possessed him, he judged that his martial soul was a Shadow Leopard, a type of ambush soul beast that uses shadows to hide itself when hunting.
Glenn didn't chase after them. Protecting people was more important. He was about to turn back to rescue Yan Jin, but he saw four wolf corpses lying on the ground and suddenly embarrassedly realized that his kill count was the lowest.
These two little devils' fighting power is a bit outrageous. No wonder Master Ma Wen is willing to invest... he muttered in his heart.
Evaluating Amon and Yan Jin's potential was also one of the purposes of his trip.
According to his original estimate, it would be good if Yan Jin could hold on for a while under the mouths of two Icefield Wolves, but what he didn't expect was that it was the Icefield Wolves who couldn't hold on.
As for Amon, the real Soul Master, Glenn didn't think he couldn't beat the Icefield Wolves, but being able to quickly solve them silently was also unexpected.
He focused his attention on his opponents and Yan Jin, so he didn't see how Amon did it at all.
After a long silence, he said somewhat awkwardly, "These are not our targets, there is no need to kill them. Soul beasts are a treasure given to mankind by nature. Unless necessary, they cannot be killed indiscriminately."
The smell of blood would attract other soul beasts, so the three of them did not stay there for too long and found another place to rest.
