Chapter 6: Chapter 5: Mooching off women feels so good
This was the second ability Norin discovered later. It was unclear whether it was a mutant ability or how it could be improved.
Based on his earlier estimates, he could actively search for and travel to a new universe approximately once a month. This universe wasn't limited to the parallel universes of the Marvel Universe.
The searches were random and not under Norin's control.
But the return trip was.
Once he locked onto a universe, he could mark it.
After that, he could travel between the two universes at any time without waiting for the next cooldown.
Norin still didn't know how to improve this ability and only had one theory.
Perhaps the cooldown for space travel was tied to his strength.
With his current strength—barely above an ordinary human's—he could only wait for the ability to reset naturally.
After all, the energy required to travel across universes must be enormous.
With his current power, even if he poured everything he had into it, he wouldn't make a dent.
The long cooldown was likely due to the need to build a stable channel between the two universes.
The key to this channel was in Norin's hands.
He could come and go as he pleased.
Nearly a month ago, he had opened a channel to another universe.
That world was The Boys universe.
An anti-superhero world with dark, violent, and satirical themes.
The superheroes in that world gained their powers by injecting a substance called Compound V.
The most powerful superheroes were controlled by Vought International.
The strongest among them were undoubtedly Homelander, who had a weakened version of Superman's abilities, and his father, Soldier Boy.
With the weapons humans had at the time, it was almost impossible to kill them.
Unless a high-yield nuclear or hydrogen bomb was used.
Even in the Marvel Universe, they would be considered extremely powerful.
But this universe was different.
While mutants also had superpowers, they were almost universally hated and were on the verge of extinction.
In The Boys universe, superhumans—especially the Seven under Vought—were treated like celebrities.
However, behind the scenes, almost all of the Seven were villains.
There were many superheroes in that universe, but Norin knew surviving there would be extremely difficult.
A superhuman who seemed friendly might turn around and slap your head off.
Norin didn't have a superhuman physique. If he took a hit like that, his head would be pulp.
At the time, Norin only had Ophelia's abilities and hadn't prepared enough.
Knowing his chances of survival were slim, he quickly returned to the Marvel Universe.
Although Ophelia was a mid-level Hydra administrator, she didn't have much influence.
She couldn't provide much help to Norin.
She could only assist with intelligence, daily life, and weapons.
But even with Hydra's thermal weapons, they would be useless against most superhumans with enhanced physiques in The Boys universe.
This was why Norin decided to come to Xavier's School.
To be honest, Charles might be a bit too saintly, but his school offered a safe environment for newcomers as long as you didn't cause trouble.
And there was no shortage of powerful female mutants.
Norin fit in like a fish in water.
It seemed his unique physique gave him strong mental defenses. Ordinary psychic abilities couldn't penetrate his mind.
Maybe it was a perk of his special body?
Or perhaps a small buff from the soul enhancement after his rebirth.
As long as Professor X didn't use his full power, it was nearly impossible for him to see into Norin's mind.
Generally, Professor X wouldn't pry into someone's thoughts without reason, especially someone with mental defenses. It could easily alert the person.
So Norin didn't have to worry about his rebirth secret being exposed.
"I wonder what kind of world it'll be this time. I really hope I can gain something."
Norin's face was filled with anticipation.
This time was different from the last. He was mentally prepared and had gained Kitty Pryde's phasing ability through molecular mimicry.
Although Kitty's abilities weren't fully developed yet—she needed to hold her breath when phasing through objects and couldn't phase through anything too thick—they still greatly improved Norin's survivability.
Combined with Ophelia's enhanced abilities, he could protect himself even in The Boys universe.
But survival wasn't enough. Thanks to Ophelia, he used Hydra's resources to handle some documentation in that world, allowing him to move around freely.
In this regard, Hydra was a professional.
They could forge documents without raising suspicion.
But in other universes, it was hard to say. The documents from this universe might not be valid elsewhere. At the very least, dates and other details couldn't be faked.
Even if Ophelia could use Hydra's resources to forge documents, the years wouldn't match up. Who knew if the policies had changed?
Norin decided to wait until he grew stronger before venturing out again.
The world of The Boys was full of risks. With his current strength, running into one of those powerful superhumans could easily end in disaster.
He needed at least Hulk-level strength to feel safe.
"It's still a bit out of reach. Maybe I should just knock on Jean Grey's door in the early hours?"
"No, that won't work yet. I need to build a better relationship first. You can't rush things. Patience is key."
Norin was confident in his charm, but that didn't mean he could win someone over the moment they met.
Jean was a telepathic mutant with Omega-level potential, and the Phoenix Force within her was the embodiment of life and mind.
No matter how confident Norin was in his seductive abilities, he couldn't guarantee he'd win her over so easily.
He even wondered if his charm would work on her at all.
Was it even a psychic ability?
Norin shook his head, pushing the thought aside for now. He pulled out his phone to check the time.
"The feeling is back! My ability is ready."
"It's August 19th, 8:30 p.m. It's been almost 29 days, 23 hours, and 50 minutes since my last trip."
"It might not be exact, but it proves one thing—the cooldown has shortened. Maybe it's tied to my physical changes? I'll need more experiments to confirm."
When it came to developing his abilities, Norin didn't take any chances. He memorized the numbers carefully, repeating them silently dozens of times. Only when he was sure he had them down did he refocus.
After taking a deep breath, Norin checked to make sure no one was outside, then closed and locked the door.
He carefully reviewed the eighteen precautions he'd listed for his next trip. Then, he opened a locked cabinet and pulled out a backpack, checking its contents.
Inside was a compact Glock 19 pistol with three magazines.
A bulletproof vest.
A satellite phone.
There were also headsets, emergency medical supplies, and other essentials.
All of it was S.H.I.E.L.D.-grade equipment.
Ophelia had arranged for a courier to deliver it to the school.
Xavier's School didn't inspect such deliveries, which was how Norin got his hands on these otherwise impossible-to-obtain supplies.
One thing had to be mentioned.
Norin didn't have a single penny to his name in this country. He relied entirely on Ophelia for his living expenses.
She'd even given him a credit card and a Chevrolet, likely bought with embezzled funds, allowing him to live a comfortable life.
According to Ophelia, she'd rather suffer herself than let Norin go without.
While he hardly used these things at school, he had to admit—living off someone else's generosity was delicious!
After confirming everything was in order, Norin activated his ability and vanished from the room.
