Bound by fire, Claimed by love

Chapter 21: Chapter 21

Evelyn and Isabelle spent the day together, strolling through the lively streets of the capital, stopping by small boutiques, and sharing laughter over pastries at a charming little café. Away from noble expectations and courtly gossip, they could simply be themselves.

As evening fell, they retreated to Isabelle's estate for a well-deserved girls' night. Draped in comfortable robes, they lounged in Isabelle's lavish yet cozy bedroom, sipping warm tea and indulging in late-night treats.

"You have no idea how refreshing this is," Evelyn sighed, stretching out on the plush cushions. "No scheming mothers, no prying eyes, just peace."

Isabelle smirked, twirling a strand of her golden hair. "Oh, don't tell me you're tired of your dear fiancé already?"

Evelyn scoffed, a faint blush dusting her cheeks. "That's not what I meant, and you know it."

They talked for hours—about everything and nothing. Their childhood memories, court gossip, and of course, who had the most infuriating suitors. Evelyn teased Isabelle about Adrian again, only for Isabelle to roll her eyes and swiftly change the subject, much to Evelyn's amusement.

As the night grew deeper, the warmth of friendship wrapped around them like a comforting embrace. For a brief moment, the weight of noble responsibilities, forbidden romances, and hidden conspiracies faded away.

Tomorrow, reality would return. But tonight, it was just them.
