Chapter 7: Powers

The morning sun filtered through the dense canopy of trees, casting dappled light across the clearing where Ash and Kael had spent the night. Ash stirred, his body still humming with the new power he had unlocked the previous day. The soreness from the transformation was gone, replaced by a vibrant energy that coursed through his veins. He felt… alive in a way he hadn't before.

Beside him, Kael was already awake, watching him with her sharp purple eyes. She had changed so much, growing larger and more powerful, her silver fur shimmering with the same violet energy that now pulsed within Ash. She seemed calm but alert, her tail flicking slightly as she gazed at him.

Ash pushed himself to his feet, feeling lighter than he ever had. Every movement was fluid, effortless, as if his body had been finely tuned to the world around him. He flexed his hands, marveling at the way his Ki responded immediately, crackling around him in a vibrant purple glow.

"We've really grown stronger, haven't we?" Ash said softly, looking at Kael.

Kael let out a low growl, not of warning, but of agreement. She stepped closer to him, her massive form towering over him. Ash reached up to place a hand on her fur, feeling the raw energy that now flowed through her as well.

"I wonder just how far we've come," Ash muttered, more to himself than to Kael.

He closed his eyes, focusing inward. His Ki felt more refined now, sharper. He could feel it bubbling just beneath the surface, ready to be unleashed. He raised his hand and concentrated, willing the energy to gather.

A small orb of violet light formed in his palm, but unlike before, it didn't flicker or waver. The Ki was stable, controlled, and much more potent than it had been. Ash smiled, pushing the energy outward. The orb shot forward, streaking through the air before dissipating with a quiet hum.

Much better, Ash thought, impressed by how much more control he had over his attacks.

But there was something more. As the orb of Ki vanished, Ash felt a pull deep within his core, something new, something untapped. He furrowed his brow, focusing on that sensation. It was as if the energy wanted to expand, to rise, to—

Before he could finish the thought, his body lifted off the ground.

Ash's eyes snapped open, and his heart raced as he realized what was happening. He was hovering a few inches above the forest floor, his Ki swirling around him, lifting him effortlessly into the air.

"Wha—? I can fly?" he said, astonished.

He wobbled slightly, the sensation unfamiliar, but with a bit of concentration, he steadied himself. The energy around him flared slightly, and before he knew it, he was floating higher, several feet above the ground. His heart pounded in his chest, excitement and disbelief mixing in equal measure.

"This is incredible…" Ash whispered, a grin spreading across his face.

Kael, watching from below, barked in excitement, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. Ash looked down at her, wondering if she too had gained this ability. With a thought, he descended back to the ground, his feet landing softly on the forest floor.

"Let's see what you can do, Kael," Ash said, stepping back.

Kael's ears perked up, and she seemed to understand immediately. Her body tensed, and in an instant, her legs pushed off the ground, sending her airborne. For a moment, Ash's breath caught in his throat—seeing such a massive creature soaring through the air was surreal. But Kael wasn't just flying, she was in complete control, twisting gracefully through the air as if she had been doing it her whole life.

Ash laughed, a sound of pure joy. "You're amazing, Kael!"

Kael growled playfully, twisting in the air before landing beside him, her tail wagging with excitement. But there was more. Ash could sense it—Kael's Ki wasn't just for flight. She had gained something else from their transformation, something powerful.

"Let's see what else you've got," Ash said, stepping back again.

Kael seemed to understand. Her body tensed once more, but this time, her jaw opened wide. A brilliant flash of violet light gathered in her mouth, swirling with intense energy. Ash could feel the power building, the air around them crackling with static.

And then, with a deafening roar, Kael unleashed a blast of Ki from her mouth, a concentrated beam of energy that shot through the clearing, cutting through the trees like a blade. The sheer force of the blast left a smoking trail in its wake, and the ground where it struck was scorched, the trees splintered and charred.

Ash stared in awe, speechless for a moment. Kael had always been powerful, but this… this was something else entirely.

"That's… that's incredible," Ash breathed, his heart racing. He looked at Kael, who stood proudly, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "You've really grown, Kael."

Kael rumbled softly, her tail flicking with pride. But she wasn't done yet. With a soft growl, she closed her eyes, and her body began to shimmer. The energy around her shifted, and before Ash's eyes, Kael began to shrink.

Her massive form diminished, her body becoming smaller, more compact. Within seconds, she stood before Ash at half her original size, still exuding the same powerful aura, but now far more agile.

Ash blinked in surprise, kneeling down to Kael's new form. "You can change your size too?"

Kael barked in confirmation, her tongue lolling out in a playful grin. Ash laughed, scratching behind her ears. "You're full of surprises, aren't you?"

He stepped back again, watching as Kael's form shimmered once more. This time, she grew, her body expanding until she was even larger than before, towering over Ash with a regal presence. The ground trembled slightly beneath her weight, her aura crackling with raw power.

"Unbelievable…" Ash muttered, shaking his head in amazement.

Kael, now back to her original size, let out a satisfied growl, her eyes glowing with pride. Ash couldn't help but smile as he looked up at her. They had come so far, and their newfound abilities only solidified the bond between them.

Ash felt a surge of energy run through him, and he realized just how much stronger he had become as well. His speed, his strength, his defense—everything had been amplified. He could feel it in the way his muscles responded, the way his Ki flowed more freely through his body.

He raised his hand again, summoning a ball of Ki, but this time, the energy was much more potent. The orb of light flickered in his palm, crackling with intensity. With a flick of his wrist, he hurled it toward a nearby tree, and the explosion that followed sent a shockwave through the clearing, splintering the trunk and sending debris flying in all directions.

Ash's eyes widened. The power in his attacks had grown exponentially. He clenched his fist, feeling the energy pulse beneath his skin. He was stronger, faster, and more capable than ever before.

"This is… amazing," Ash whispered, looking down at his hands. "We're ready."

Kael barked softly, stepping forward to nuzzle him. Ash smiled, placing a hand on her snout. Their bond was unbreakable now, their power unmatched.

For the first time in weeks, Ash felt a sense of completion. The transformation had unlocked their true potential, and now, they were ready for whatever lay ahead.

"Kael," Ash said, turning to look at her. "I think it's time we find out what's beyond this forest."

Kael growled softly, her eyes gleaming with excitement. She lowered herself to the ground, allowing Ash to climb onto her back. Her fur was warm beneath his hands, and he could feel the power thrumming through her body.

Together, they rose into the air, the wind whipping around them as Kael took flight. Ash glanced down at the forest below, a sense of anticipation building in his chest. They had trained, they had grown, and now, they were ready to face the world.

As they soared through the sky, Ash couldn't help but smile. Whatever challenges awaited them beyond the trees, he knew they would face them together—stronger than ever.

The time had come to find civilization, to discover what lay beyond the wilderness, and to see just how far their newfound power would take them.
