Chapter 215: Her heartache
If she lost her mind, then she might cause unnecessary trouble for herself and the other members of the team. Bai Meiyue had no desire to show such a terrible side of herself in front of others.
What was more, she was a pregnant woman. The weight of a four-year-old child was not light; what if she hurt herself or her son? As the father of their son, Lei Qian should contribute a little at times, right?
Lei Qian was speechless. He looked at Bai Meiyue before lowering his head and looking down at the little boy who was already looking at him. However, the second the little boy realised that the one who was holding him was a man, he burst into tears.
There was no helping it.
He still had some lingering fear due to his father's cruel actions.
When Lei Qian saw that the boy was crying, he became even more helpless. He had never carried a child in his arms and had no idea what to do.
More importantly, the child was so soft and weak that Lei Qian was worried that he might hurt him if he was too harsh on him. Thus, the child was like a slimy eel in his arms. Lei Qian couldn't carry him properly, no matter what he did!
Poor Meng Guo was scared to begin with.
And Lei Qian's way of handling him scared him even more. It didn't take long for the boy to start crying as if he had been abused.

"Pfft." Lei Yan, who returned after cleaning up the zombies, let out a little laugh. She looked at her brother, who was carrying the child, as if he was cradling a bomb and almost burst into laughter.
Who would have thought that one day her brother, who used to lead a bunch of executives, would have a day like this? Back then, Lei Yan used to believe that her elder brother could do almost anything but now she realised that Lei Qian was not as skilled as she thought.
Of course, Lei Qian heard her laugh but he was too occupied with the child in his arms to glare at her. He let the child turn and twist for a while before he could finally carry him properly in his arms.
"You little brat…" Lei Qian sighed in relief when the child stopped twisting. Just now he was worried that the boy would fall; fortunately, he stopped making a fuss.
A few steps away from Lei Qian, Bai Meiyue heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that the child was no longer crying. Because whenever the child cried, it became hard for her to harden her heart and her legs to walk away from the crying child.
Once the child stopped crying, even Bai Meiyue eased a little. She raised the sabre sword that she was clutching in her hands and walked towards the horde of zombies.
She raised the sword and dealt with the zombies one by one but after a while she started to feel her arms getting tired. This Level One zombie was more powerful than the last one; the number of zombies it attracted was simply too high. If she continued to kill them one by one, it would take too much time.
And they needed to arrive at the City Hospital before night.
She couldn't take her sweet time cleaning these zombies.
With a flick of her hands, six thick water tendrils appeared on her back like the legs of a scorpion. The tendrils grew and became longer and thicker before flying out and piercing the heads of six zombies together and when the vines came out, each one of them was holding a crystal nuclei.
Behind her, Lei Qian was bouncing the child while watching Bai Meiyue deal with the zombies. However, he was not annoyed with Bai Meiyue for leaving him alone with the child; instead, he was quite proud. This was the woman he liked! Look how dashing and heroic she looked.
Lu Yin saw the proud look on Lei Qian's face and clenched her fingers in hatred. Why!? Why were the heavens so unfair? If only it was her, then Lei Qian would be looking at her with that gaze instead of Bai Meiyue.
Dacheng, who was sitting beside her, was filled with horror. He looked at thick vines and was amazed by the extreme control that Bai Meiyue possessed over them. This woman was so much more powerful than he imagined. He couldn't help but wonder if he made the wrong bet.
Yun Chuan and the rest were also impressed by Bai Meiyue's skills.
They turned to look at Lei Qian, who was looking at Bai Meiyue like a proud husband and snickered. When Lei Qian heard their snickering sound, he turned and walked towards them with the child dangling in his arms as if he was about to hand the child over to one of them.
The trick did its job and the four of them scattered away at once. They could deal with zombies but a child—let's not talk about it!
Bai Meiyue took care of most of the zombies but didn't touch the ones that were lingering in front of the building where Jiang Haidai lived. Instead, she turned and looked at the building where the Level One zombie was hiding.
The monster stepped out of the building the second the zombies protecting it unconsciously and instinctively disappeared. It growled and hissed at Bai Meiyue and was preparing to attack her when there was a loud ding and everyone turned to look at the elevator that opened.
Even the zombies that were staggering outside the building slowly turned and looked at Jiang Haidai, who stepped out of the elevator with a flustered expression.
However, Bai Meiyue simply looked at the woman and didn't move. She was not going to help her. Since Jiang Haidai made the decision to come downstairs, she must have already prepared herself to kill zombies.
Even a normal person couldn't survive in the apocalypse without fighting for survival. Compared to a normal person, a mother who not only had a child but was also pregnant, she needed even more courage and presence of mind to survive. If not, how would she survive the dangerous times?
