Chapter 38: 38 A Beautiful Day Starts with Waking Up in the Arms of a Beautiful Girl
On Thursday, Hojou Kyousuke woke up an hour earlier than usual.
Before Yamauchi Sakura had even stirred, he had already prepared breakfast.
If it were just him, he'd have skipped it, but for Sakura, he put in the effort to make something special.
"Lazy pig, wake up," he said gently, pinching her little nose.
"Good morning, Kyousuke," Sakura mumbled, rubbing her sleepy eyes as she sat up.
She smiled widely, her large shirt slipping off her shoulder, revealing her fair skin.
The morning sun streamed through the curtains, bathing her in golden light, making Kyousuke feel as if he wanted to marry her on the spot.
"Quick, get dressed. Breakfast is ready," he said, tearing his eyes away from her with great effort before heading to the kitchen to heat up some milk.
Today, he made steamed yam cake for Sakura—though with a twist.
He reduced the sugar and added some healthier ingredients.
"Wow, yam cake! I haven't had this in ages," Sakura exclaimed happily as she finished washing up.
Although she was a girl who knew how to dress up, she never kept him waiting for long.
After all, the whole point of makeup was to look her best for him, but making him wait for that? That was going too far.
Sakura's odd logic, though, seemed perfectly reasonable to Kyousuke, and both of them accommodated each other in their own ways.
"Oh, and I packed a bento for you. You can take it to school later," he added.
Kyousuke had gotten up early not only to make breakfast but also to prepare some snacks for Sakura to take to school.
According to her, the cafeteria there was more like a prison, with a supervisor making sure the girls ate properly.
A small slip in manners, and they'd be docked points and given extra training sessions.
"Ugh, this is so good! The food at school isn't even fit for humans," Sakura exaggerated loudly, which made Kyousuke smile.
The "food" at school wasn't really that great, but it was healthy.
At least he didn't have to worry about Sakura's diet.
"I don't get why we have to do yoga every day. Is the school really planning to marry us off right after graduation? Are they training us to be ladies or what?" Sakura lamented.
Despite her complaints, her time at the "lady school" was unexpectedly fulfilling and fun.
After breakfast, Kyousuke rode his Rocket 3 to drop Sakura off at school before heading to his own.
Since he had already spoken to his subordinates yesterday, there was no repeat of the usual "Boss!" greetings in the halls.
Once in class, Kyousuke felt like the stares from his classmates were more fearful than before.
The student sitting in front of him, Hanagaki Takemichi, looked like he'd been beaten up—his face was bruised, and he kept glancing at Hojou, quickly looking away when their eyes met.
At lunch, Kyousuke went to his usual spot—the rooftop.
After eating, he didn't nap but instead called Kisaki Tetta up to chat by the railing.
"Kisaki, what's up with Hanagaki Takemichi and his friends? Did they get picked on by the Rampaging Angels?" Hojou asked.
"Heh, those guys? They've always wanted to be delinquents. When they found out about the Rampaging Angels, they decided to target other schools," Kisaki Tetta laughed darkly.
He found Hanagaki Takemichi's misfortune almost too amusing to resist.
"Kisaki, can you stop laughing like the mastermind behind all this?" Kyousuke sighed, watching Kisaki chuckle to himself with that scheming grin.
"Oh, right, they targeted the first-year students at Shibuya Third Junior High."
"Hanagaki's cousin got beat up, and now he has to go fight other people after school, pretending it's a battle, but really, he's just taking the hits," Kisaki continued, laughing again.
"Kisaki, I get that you enjoy seeing Hanagaki's misfortune, but can you tell the story a little more professionally?"
"If you keep this up, I might just end up punching you," Kyousuke said, giving Kisaki a pointed look.
"Sorry, sorry, but why would you think I'm happy about Hanagaki Takemichi's bad luck?" Kisaki pushed his glasses up, feigning surprise at Kyousuke's accusation.
"Don't treat me like an idiot, Kisaki," Kyousuke replied, giving him a look that said he wasn't fooled.
"I topped the entrance exams and left you trailing by fifty points. The only reason you're not further behind is because the exam had a full score limit."
Kyousuke gave Kisaki a pat on the shoulder, taking the opportunity to knock him down a peg where it hurt the most.
"I don't care what your reasons are for sticking with me, as long as you're not trying to sabotage me."
"You should've figured out by now that I'm lazy—extremely lazy, which is why I keep you around."
"As for your issues with Hanagaki Takemichi, I can even guess it's about a girl. Am I right?" Kisaki froze, his mouth hanging open in surprise.
Under Kyousuke's sharp gaze, it felt like he was completely exposed, every thought bared.
"Ugh, Kisaki, stop looking at me like that. It's gross," Kyousuke remarked, pulling a face at Kisaki's intense stare.
But Kisaki didn't seem to mind Kyousuke's teasing.
After a brief silence, he decided to confide a little more of his feelings to the boss who seemed to see through him so easily.
"I like this girl. She likes Hanagaki Takemichi because he's going to become the strongest in Japan, so I have to become the strongest too."
"That way, she'll like me instead!" Kisaki said, glaring at Hanagaki Takemichi.
"Hahahahahaha!" Kyousuke burst into laughter, unable to control himself.
"Hey! You can't mock my love and dreams just because you're my boss!" Kisaki snapped, though the two had become close enough that he didn't mind the teasing too much.
After all, this was his "genius" plan to win Tachibana Hinata's heart, and it was being ridiculed.
"Hahaha, sorry, but it's just too funny!" Kyousuke chuckled, clutching his stomach, his abs aching from the laughter.
"You've had your fun! I've been putting up with you for a while now," Kisaki growled.
His face flushed with frustration as he suddenly lunged at Kyousuke, wrapping his arm around his neck in a playful hold.
"Hahahaha, I'll stop, I'll stop!" Kyousuke laughed even harder, though he finally managed to contain himself, despite the wide grin on his face.
