Chapter 41:
Chapter 41: The Overturned Green Tea:
Before Lin Shiyan could defend herself, Lin Yuan ran a hand through his hair, his frustration evident. “Enough about this! Even if it’s just 300 yuan, stop it immediately!” he shouted. “This is ridiculous. Are you all trying to drive me to my grave? I’m not dead yet!”
He paused, then added angrily, “By the way, Shiyan, do you know who that beast is associating with? Tomorrow, find someone to break his boss’s legs. Show that traitor he’s nothing but a novice playing with tricks I mastered long ago!”
Lin Shiyan was taken aback. She couldn’t believe the man in front of her was her father—the calm and decisive leader she had always known. His blatant bias toward Lin Tianyang, blindly blaming Lin You, was infuriating. It felt as though Lin Tianyang was his untouchable weak spot.
Feigning ignorance, Lin Shiyan said casually, “Tianyang seems to know. Didn’t he just say those people were Lin You’s friends? Why don’t you ask him?”
Lin Tianyang’s eyes lit up.
He hadn’t expected this timely assist. Oblivious to the hidden trap in her words, he struggled to sit up and spoke weakly, “Dad, I’ll tell you everything—if you promise to forgive my brother.”
Lin Yuan looked at his son with watery eyes, clearly moved.
Turning to Lin Shiyan, he exclaimed, “See this? This is family. This is loyalty and love. Look at Tianyang, and then look at that beast, Lin You! Tianyang is willing to forgive him, yet that ungrateful boy associates with the underworld and does this to his own brother!”
Lin Yuan’s anger grew as he turned back to Lin Tianyang. “Don’t worry, my son. You see him as your brother, but does he see you as family? He declared his intention to sever ties with us the other day, and now he’s colluding with criminals to harm you. If I don’t teach him a lesson this time, everything will fall apart!”
Lan Lin, deeply moved by Tianyang’s words, gently stroked his shaved head. Her voice trembled as she said, “Tianyang, we’ll handle this. We won’t hurt him too much—just break his legs so he can’t run around causing trouble anymore. It’s for his own good.”
Feeling the moment was right, Lin Tianyang added weakly, “I overheard the leader of the gang mention they’re from [Ding City]. But Dad, please don’t be too harsh on them. They’re just doing their job.”
He conveniently forgot that Lin You had mentioned [Ding City] only a few days earlier. The typical green tea façade worked on occasion but not always.
Lin Yuan froze at the mention of Ding City. “Ding City?” he muttered. “How could that be?”
He began piecing things together aloud. “Shengnan mentioned investigating Dingcheng earlier, and now this? Lin You was involved in ruining our deal with them. Could he be linked to Dingcheng?”
Sighing deeply, Lin Yuan shook his head. “Forget it. Tianyang, focus on recovering. Shiyan, take him to the hospital tomorrow for proper treatment.” With that, he picked up his coat and trudged upstairs, looking utterly defeated.
This abrupt shift left Lin Tianyang bewildered. Just moments ago, his father had been fuming, and now he seemed completely cowed. The once-perfect act of green tea manipulation had crumbled.
…
Early the next morning, Lin You woke up to find a set of jeans neatly placed on his bed. Zhang Xi was grinning at him.
Rubbing his eyes, Lin You asked, “Did you buy these? How much were they? I’ll pay you back when I have money.”
Zhang Xi, pretending to be hurt, replied, “Come on, don’t talk like that. I noticed your clothes were practically rags, so I bought these for you. They’re just a few thousand dollars. Forget about the cost—it’s nothing between brothers.”
Lin You’s jaw dropped. “A few thousand dollars? I can’t wear something so expensive. Take them back and return them!”
None of Lin You’s clothes had ever cost more than a hundred yuan. The idea of wearing something worth thousands was unimaginable.
“No way!” Zhang Xi protested. “I still owe you 1.5 million. How could I do something so petty? What—you think I’m flaunting my wealth? Is it my fault I come from a rich family?”
Then, as if realizing something, he added, “Wait a minute. Isn’t your Lin family supposed to be rich too? Why do you act like a poor farmer while treating me, the silly rich kid, like a spoiled brat?”
“Is this about the money I owe you? Lin You, I didn’t think you were this kind of person. You’ve really disappointed me!” Zhang Xi declared dramatically.
Lin You stared at him, bewildered. For the first time, he realized this simple-minded guy had such peculiar thoughts. “Fine, I’ll wear them,” Lin You relented, picking up the clothes. To his surprise, Zhang Xi had even bought him underwear, socks, and undershirts.
Trying them on, Lin You found that everything fit perfectly. He couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness—his own mother had never once bought him clothes like this.
As the two finished getting ready, they heard a hesitant knock on the door. “Fatty? Lin You? Are you guys done?” came Li Ruochen’s tentative voice.
Lin You opened the door and asked irritably, “Why do you girls always think about such weird things? What do you mean, ‘Are you done?’ Done with what?”
Blushing, Li Ruochen stuck out her tongue playfully. “I read in a book that if two men share a room, they might be… you know, gay.”
Without thinking, Lin You swatted her on the butt. The springy response made him pause for a moment.
“Pervert!” Li Ruochen exclaimed, rolling her eyes at him with a shy smile.
Afterward, the three of them went downstairs for breakfast. Lin You informed them that he was heading to the Golden Fox Building to meet Minghu. “You two should go back to school,” he said. “Ruochen, help me ask Teacher Yuan for leave.”
Turning to Zhang Xi, he added, “Fatty, you’ve got three months left. Try your best to get into a junior college. If anything happens to your parents, you might not always have their money to rely on.”
Li Ruochen, biting into a piece of bread, suddenly teared up. Her tears fell into her milk as she sobbed, “Lin You, I… I’ll make a lot of money in the future! I want to become Hangzhou’s top andrologist and give all my earnings to you!”
Lin You, still peeling an egg, gave her a thumbs-up. “Great! Lofty ambitions.”
Zhang Xi leaned over with a mischievous grin. “Doctor Li, can I book an appointment now? I want you to perform surgery on me—cut the skin, you know. Name your price, I’ll pay in advance!”
“Get lost!” Li Ruochen snapped. “I’ll cut it off entirely and feed it to the dogs!”
