Chapter 6: Death
Chapter 6: Death
The foreknowledge clearly revealed that after the first Soul Demon perished, under the suppression of prison power, both the white-robed youth and the Soul Demon would lose their strength.
If he were to take action at this very moment, there was a high probability of defeating that White-robed bastard!
"The rewards of a Rank-Five mission are significantly greater than those of a Rank-Two mission," Zander mused.
"Furthermore, completing the novice task directly influences the subsequent activation of mainline quests and daily tasks. If I can succeed in this Rank-Five mission, imagine the kind of mainline quests I could unlock in the future!"
A spark of determination flashed in Zander's eyes as he evaluated the situation. Attempting the Rank-Five task seemed more worthwhile by the minute.
Whether or not he could accomplish it, at least there was a chance.
"Let's go for it; this is my moment."
Without further hesitation, Zander gritted his teeth and quickly resolved to take the plunge.
High risk, high reward—it's the only way forward. With such a gamble, the worn-out bicycle could transform into a powerful motorcycle!
He vividly remembered the player named "Kaeler," who had reportedly enhanced the Demon Sutra to the Great Accomplishment stage just three days after the game's servers launched.
If Zander managed to complete this Rank-Four quest now, wouldn't it be a breeze to surpass that motherfucker?
"Accept the mission!"
The moment he made the decision, the task panel underwent a drastic shift. The first two missions vanished, leaving only the third:
**[Eliminate the Uncontrolled Cultivator]**
- **[Difficulty: Rank-Five]**
- **[Prison Details:]** You are currently in Soul Prison, a facility specifically constructed to detain human bloodline warriors and powerful demons. In this environment, both demons and martial artists have their bloodline powers suppressed.
Soul Prison was just a normal prison before the great calamity, but due to some unknown reason, it is now gaining its own consciousness and turning itself into a bizarre creature.
It is said that this is just a discarded experiment of unknown to capture the unknown. But due to the influence of unknown, the unknown, themselves suffered a lot also loosing this precious treasure of theirs in the process.
Once filled with despair, now serves as a sanctuary for the cultivators on the brink of losing control due to bloodline conflict. Here, their descent into chaos has significantly slowed due to the extreme suppression of their soul.
Not long ago, a Rank-5 human cultivator named Hong Tian allowed himself to be captured by a demon in an attempt to evade losing control, intending to be imprisoned here.
Though his plan worked and he successfully entered Soul Prison, he underestimated the relentless conflict within his bloodline. Soul prison did have a major effect on the bloodline conflict but it was late, very late for him.
Even under the prison's suppressive power, the malevolent energy of the demon within him gradually took hold.
Now, as Hong Tian nears the tipping point, the entire prison's survival is at stake—including yours!
- **[Objective:]** Locate and eliminate the individual about to lose control.
- **[Rewards:]** An inheritance left by a great immortal from Pre-Calamity era.
"So, this is the situation," Zander muttered as he absorbed the task description.
Connecting the dots, it became clear that the White-robed guy had been teetering on the edge of losing control due to his bloodline conflict. The presence of the Soul Demons only hastened his descent into chaos.
"Anyway, I always wanted to kill, i wanted to savor that addictive pleasure of killing, I was starving to end someone's life, but in the real life I can't do that but here..."
Zander tightened his grip on the dagger in his hand, refraining from any impulsive moves. Patience was key—he needed to wait for the perfect opening.
After several tense moments, the two Soul Demons were gravely wounded by the White-robed guy's relentless onslaught, their forms smashed against the cold, unforgiving walls of the cell.
Zander held his breath, summoning every ounce of his willpower to steady himself.
The White-robed Youth wasn't finished, however. Advancing with unstoppable ferocity, he launched another devastating attack, his palm slamming into the first Soul Demon.
This strike was the end—the first Soul Demon succumbed, its skull shattered under the sheer force of the blow.
"Grrrr..." The anguished roar of its companion echoed through the prison, filled with rage and sorrow.
"It's happening! The prophecy is unfolding," Zander thought, bracing himself as destiny arrived.
Zander tensed his body, fully aware that this moment would determine the success or failure of the task.
"Everything rides on this one strike!"
The instant the Soul Demon was killed by the White-robed Youth, Zander dashed forward like a predator on the hunt.
As the Soul Demon's lifeless body hit the ground, a bizarre phenomenon unfolded: in mere moments, the corpse appeared completely drained of moisture, shrinking into a withered husk.
Simultaneously, everyone in the prison cell felt a faint tremor ripple through the floor. Both the uncontrolled White-robed Youth and the surviving Soul Demon collapsed to the ground. However, Zander and the two other young men in the cell remained unaffected.
The prison's power selectively targeted those with bloodline abilities, leaving ordinary individuals like them untouched, may be because it was gaining its own wisdom.
The sudden shift left the two youths stunned, staring blankly at the unfolding events.
In that same moment, Zander reached the White-robed Youth.
Lying motionless on the ground, the youth's swollen, grotesque body began to visibly shrink, the suppression of bloodline powers gradually easing his uncontrolled state.
If given time, he might have fully regained control and reverted to his prior form.
But time was a luxury he didn't have.
"Die!"
With determination etched across his face, Zander gripped the dagger tightly with both hands and plunged it into the youth's throat without hesitation.
He had but a single breath's time to act—there was no margin for error.
The rusty, palm-sized dagger sank into the White-robed Youth's throat with ease.
A torrent of blood erupted as the youth gasped and writhed violently, his eyes blazing with fury and hatred.
Zander's face remained emotionless. His hands stayed firm on the weapon as he raised the dagger once more and drove it down with force.
This time, the dagger pierced the youth's eye socket, driving deep into his skull.
For an out-of-control warrior like this, Zander couldn't afford to take any chances.
Blood oozed relentlessly from the wound, but Zander continued, aiming to strike again.
He thrusted the dragger again and again without any pause, he knew that if he paused, his whole life will.
"Die!!, why don't you die!"
"Ahh... this is so fun, I could feel my whole blood drenched in dopamine.. hh ha ha...ouch." He was just ravaging the body of that cultivator when some drops of the cultivator fell on his face. The drops were so hot that it easily eroded the left cheeks of his.
"Whatt the hell!, uhh..", there was a finger wide hole in his cheeks connecting it to his mouth. The pain was extreme but he was too stubborn to give up.
Yet, just as he prepared for his next blow, an unexpected event occurred.
The prison cell trembled once more, and the power suppressing the bloodlines vanished!
In the next heartbeat, before Zander could deliver another strike, the White-robed Youth surged with his last remnants of strength and unleashed a ferocious blow to Zander's chest.
It was a desperate, final act of defiance.
The force of the strike sent Zander hurtling backward. His chest caved inward, blood spurting from his mouth as his vision blurred into darkness.
He was dying.
And yet, a faint smile played across his lips, it looked more scary than the demon itself, the devil like face in his zombie like face.
In his final moments, he saw the White-robed Youth's arm fall limply, his face contorted with bitter regret and frustration.
Zander had succeeded. The youth had perished, taking Zander with him.

"Dammit... How can this game feel so real?"
The game warehouse opened, and Zander emerged pale, struggling to sit upright. The vivid sensation of dying lingered in his mind, shaking him to his core.
H quickly moved his hand toward his cheeks, after making sure that there wasn't a big hole there, he let out a sigh of relief.
He had experienced countless immersive VR games before, but nothing compared to this. It didn't feel like a simulation at all—it felt real.
"This game is extraordinary," Zander muttered, conviction settling in his heart. "It's only a matter of time before it takes the world by storm."
With his character now dead, Zander knew he wouldn't be able to log back into the game for the rest of the day.
Glancing at the clock, it was only 9:30. He still had two hours to kill before midnight when he could re-enter the game.
To pass the time, he opened the game forums in search of useful information.
Though still sparsely populated, the forums were filled with posts from confused or frustrated players.
As Zander scrolled through, one particular post caught his attention due to its unusually high activity:
**"Merging with a second bloodline triggered a conflict. I'm about to lose control, and my real-life body is undergoing changes. Can someone explain what's happening to me?"**
The post had been published just over an hour ago at 8:00. In that short time, it had already amassed over fifty replies—an anomaly in the otherwise quiet forums.
