Chapter 9: [9] A Natural-Born Swordsman
The regeneration pod's healing effects were incredibly potent, curing his near-fatal injuries within just a few hours, leaving no trace of the damage. The medical technology in this world was simply absurd, far beyond anything from his previous life.
However, the regeneration pod's capabilities were not limitless. It could heal, but it couldn't regenerate. While it could save someone from a beheading if their brain cells remained active, once an organ was lost, even if their life was saved, that organ could never be regrown. In other words, the regeneration pod could only repair, not create.
Why did he know so much about regeneration pod technology? Well, it was because he had been dealing with it since childhood. Over the fifteen years since his rebirth, he had been in and out of the regeneration pod countless times.
Seeing Eiji move freely, Touka finally relaxed. Earlier, when she saw him lying in a pool of blood, on the brink of death, she had been terrified.
"The Director asked me to pass on a message," she said, picking up the tray and handing Eiji his still-steaming dinner.
"She said congratulations on passing the entrance exam and becoming this year's freshman at Hagun Academy. She also said that if you had explained earlier that you were a Causation Interference type Blazer, there would have been no need for that fight."
Although Blazers' abilities were as numerous as hairs on a cow, they could generally be divided into a few categories.
First was the Body Strengthening type, which only strengthened physical abilities. However, since Blazers could achieve similar effects by using mana, this type was considered the weakest.
Next was the Natural Interference type, which allowed the user to harness the forces of nature. These abilities often had advantages like wide attack ranges and were the most common among Blazers.
Then there was the Conceptual Interference type, which manipulated ideas and rules stabilized through human civilization and natural selection, granting various incredible powers.
Finally, there was the Causation Interference type, widely recognized as the strongest ability system. It possessed the power to alter causality, making it unpredictable and extraordinary. However, Blazers with such abilities were exceedingly rare.
Eiji, with his Causation Interference type ability
"Including you, there are only two Causation Interference type special ability users at Hagun Academy," his senior sister explained.
Blazers were geniuses, appearing in perhaps one out of a thousand people, while Causation Interference was a rarity that might not even appear in one out of ten thousand Blazers.
Eiji stood up from the bed, intending to get off, but was immediately stopped by his senior sister's sharp look. He had no choice but to lie back down and start devouring the food.
"How does it taste?"
"Hmm... It's okay. Not as good as what you make, senior sister."
"After a year apart, you're still as sweet-talking as ever. I was a bit busy today and didn't have time to cook. Sorry!"
"Just stating the facts."
His senior sister covered her mouth, laughing softly.
The meals at Hagun Academy were all nutrition-focused, prioritizing balanced nutrition over taste, so of course, they weren't particularly delicious.
Still, she was happy that her junior brother remembered the taste of her cooking.
"Junior brother, why did you challenge the Director to a duel today and end up in such a state?" Touka's smile faded quickly, her brows furrowing as she asked. "With your special ability, you didn't need to go that far. You could have easily gotten in."
If he had simply explained that his ability was Causation Interference, Kurono Shinguuji would never have turned him away.
"True, but opportunities to fight the former world number three don't come often," Eiji replied, swallowing a mouthful of food and waving his chopsticks as he shared his thoughts.
"I couldn't let this chance slip away. Fighting strong opponents and seeking insights in battle is how I grow stronger, pushing past my limits. Isn't that what the master always says?"
Moreover, with safety guaranteed, there was no reason to pass up such an opportunity.
In his second life, Eiji's existence had long since deviated from the norm. The stagnant, shut-in lifestyle of his previous life had vanished. Due to a moment of recklessness, he had been forced to endure fourteen miserable years, suffering unimaginable pain.
It wasn't until the beginning of last year that he finally started living like a human again.
As a child, Eiji had often wondered: if he hadn't chosen to create an extreme character template before his reincarnation, but instead opted for an average one, would his second life have turned out so tragically?
"An instinct to fight the strong?" Touka watched Eiji wolfing down his food on the bed. She wanted to scold him for disregarding his health just to fight a strong opponent, but in the end, she held back.
A knight must endure pain that ordinary people cannot bear.
Moreover, to continuously surpass oneself and break through limits, one must experience pain many times greater than others. Those who do not endure pain do not deserve success.
This might be hard for ordinary people to understand, but Touka was also a knight, and an exceptional one at that, so she could comprehend it.
Because she understood, she couldn't bring herself to reprimand him.
Touka looked at her junior brother. His eyes were serious, and one could sense a strong will swirling within him.
Seeing him like this, she couldn't help but recall what the master had told her years ago when she first met him.
"This disciple of mine is a natural-born Swordsman."
"Both in body and soul, he seems born for the sword. Given time, surpassing the existing peak and reaching new heights would be no problem at all. Although the trials of his body have wasted much of his time, they will also become his unique driving force..."
His body had endured astonishing torment, which gave him a willpower beyond ordinary people.
Moreover, he had a clear goal and the fighting spirit to strive for it.
Compared to most people who lacked self-awareness and wandered aimlessly through life, he was already ten thousand steps ahead.
'...Truly a natural-born Swordsman.'
After a long silence, Touka could only sigh helplessly, her expression complex.
"I won't say much about this aspect of you, but junior brother, you have to promise me one thing."
"What is it?"
"Lightning Flash—that move is called that, right?"
Touka's expression turned serious as she sternly warned him, "If you value your life, treat that move as a forbidden technique. Unless it's absolutely necessary, never use it casually!"
Lightning Flash was a move that grew stronger the stronger the opponent was.
While it indeed had the overwhelming power to decide a battle in one strike, the strain on his body would vary depending on the opponent's strength. The stronger the opponent, the faster his speed, and the greater the burden on his body.
This time, he was lucky to only be near death. Next time, if he wasn't careful, he could die on the spot.
To use that move safely without dying immediately afterward, Eiji would need to toughen his body and significantly enhance his physical strength.
