Campione Scumbag in Mash-up Anime

Chapter 15: Other Functions of Limestone

Dark clouds gathered densely, lightning flashed repeatedly, as if welcoming the arrival of an entity descending from mythology. Magical energy swirled wildly in the Tokyo sky, forming dimensional cracks invisible to ordinary humans. Only those who understood the mystical world—wizards, onmyoji, and supernatural beings—could sense this extraordinary presence.

The figure descended with divine grace. Long silver hair flowed freely, occasionally blown by the night wind. A pair of sharp red eyes radiated authority and immense power, like a warrior who had fought hundreds of battles without ever tasting defeat.

He wore traditional warrior attire, dominated by black, gold, and red. His sleeveless robe was adorned with golden ornaments, giving the impression of a majestic hero. A black cloak with intricate embroidery fluttered on his shoulders, adding a mysterious and intimidating aura. A blood-red belt encircled his waist, while golden armor adorned his shoulders and left arm, emphasizing that this figure was not just a god, but a legendary warrior.

In his hand, he held a bow. It lacked the glitter of gold or precious gems, just a simple bow with fine carvings on its surface. At first glance, the weapon seemed ordinary, not reflecting the status of a divine weapon. However, anyone who understood the mystical world would know—this simplicity indicated that the bow was no ordinary weapon.

The god descended slowly, his feet finally landing on the rooftop of one of Tokyo's skyscrapers. His sharp gaze fixed in a certain direction, as if he could see something invisible to ordinary eyes.

"The aura of that troublesome monkey is coming from over there…"

Without wasting time, his figure vanished in an instant, leaving behind a flash of lightning where he had stood.

Ren sipped from a canned red bean drink, savoring the combination of sweetness and slight bitterness on his tongue. He pulled out his phone and sent a brief message to Itsuki.

A few seconds later, his phone vibrated. A short reply from Itsuki appeared.

Ren smiled faintly before putting his phone back in his pocket. He lifted the bag he was carrying, feeling the weight of a portable bow and an arrow inside. His steps were light as he continued his journey, wandering aimlessly through the Tokyo night.

Passing through the business district, usually bustling during the day, Ren sighed as he saw a familiar sight—drunk office workers staggering around, some already collapsed on the sidewalk, asleep and oblivious to the world around them.

"Japanese people and their work culture…" Ren muttered, staring at a suited man lying in front of a convenience store, his tie loosened. "Working like slaves during the day, getting drunk and losing consciousness at night. I don't know whether to admire or pity them."

He continued walking, passing piles of beer cans, fast-food wrappers, and cigarette butts scattered along the roadside.

"So this is the 'clean Japan' often boasted about in the media?" He lightly kicked an empty can, sending it rolling toward the gutter. "In reality, it's not as beautiful as reported. If it weren't for the cleaning staff, Tokyo might turn into a giant garbage dump."

However, Ren acknowledged one thing.

"At least the cleaning staff work efficiently. By tomorrow morning, not a single piece of trash will remain. It's as if all this chaos never happened." He recalled the same scene from the previous day.

Ren walked slowly on the now-empty sidewalk, breathing in the night air that still carried the lingering smell of alcohol and cigarettes from a nearby bar.

What was his goal tonight?

To find a Heretic God!

As he walked, Ren muttered to himself, recalling the definition of a Heretic God.

"Heretic Gods are gods, heroes, or even sacred monsters born from myths and legends, who manifest in the mortal world and endanger humans. They are born from myths and legends. The essence of the world and beyond, this is what composes their supernatural core, giving form to their existence as gods."

"Not all gods are content with their fate. Some reject their destiny, rebelling against their mythological forms. They don't want to remain mere concepts in human belief—they want to live, breathe, and walk in the real world with their own bodies."

"These rebellious gods leave the Eternal Domain, the place where they are supposed to exist within human stories and prayers. By breaking free from their myths, they become Heretic Gods—existences that reject their origins, yet remain bound to the legends that shaped them."

"And when they descend into the world, disaster follows."

Pausing for a moment, Ren ignored the people who glanced at him talking to himself and continued.

"What determines the strength of a Heretic God isn't their fame or how powerful they are depicted in their myths. That's not what matters. What truly determines their strength is their own will and determination!"

"Normally, Heretic Gods are supernatural beings, making them invisible to ordinary people. Only wizards, shamans, priests, Hime-Miko, and those with a touch of the supernatural can see them."

"However, I have a way to bypass that limitation."

Ren slipped his hands into his jacket pockets, feeling the rough surface of something stored there—a small piece of limestone.

His fingers gripped the limestone in his pocket, and instantly, the world around him changed.

The cold night air felt heavier, as if filled with an invisible presence. From the corner of his eye, Ren could see shapeless entities that had previously been hidden behind the veil of reality.

Ghosts and evil spirits.

Their appearances varied—some resembled humans with decaying bodies and hollow eyes, others were black mist with terrifying faces, and some looked like broken dolls with unnatural smiles.

The sight reminded him of a haunted house at a school festival, except this time, it was all real.

"No wonder Yotsuya Miko often acts so normal. It's all to avoid being harassed by supernatural beings. Having to see them every day must be terrifying, poor girl."

Ren continued walking casually, though his body reflexively tensed.

He discovered the function of this limestone when he first bought it at a flea market. Perhaps because it contained a strand of Sun Wukong's fur, as long as he touched the stone, Ren could temporarily see supernatural beings.

"If ghosts and evil spirits realize a human can see them, that human will be attacked. I must admit, Yotsuya Miko's mental endurance is impressive. She can pretend not to see them even if they're just a few centimeters away."

Ren glanced slightly, seeing a ghost with sunken eyes and a creepy smile standing right behind a drunk man sitting on the sidewalk. The man was completely unaware, while the ghost just stood there, as if waiting for something.

Without drawing attention, he released his grip on the limestone. Instantly, the world returned to normal—the ghosts disappeared from his sight, hidden once more behind the veil of reality.

But even though he couldn't see them anymore, he knew they were still there.

"Just wait! Once I become a Campione, I won't need to fear mere ghosts."
